School Safety Message,

As you are probably aware with the recent school tragedy in Parkland, Florida, there has been an increased social awareness on many topics related to school and community safety.  There are many conversations and talking points to attempt to deal with these senseless actions. Of course, opinions differ on how best to proceed. To that end, various organizations nationally have encouraged students to “walk out” of school on two dates, Wednesday, March 14, 2018, and again on Friday, April 20, 2018, as a show of unity, empathy and awareness.

Eastbrook Community Schools recognize that there may be students who are aware of these planned walkouts and wish to participate.  After shared discussion with the building administrators throughout the district it is the intent for all schools to conduct “business as usual” on those days with a few potential exceptions.

Students wishing to observe the 17-minute walkout will be permitted to do so under the following conditions.  This will take place from 10:00-10:17 AM. Students will remain within our schools and directed to the school’s cafeteria where the building-level administrators and their designee(s) will monitor the discussion and talking points.  At all times students’ behavior must be above reproach and respectful of all individuals. Students will return to their classrooms following the 17-minute walkout. Additionally, Students are not to leave the supervision of their school buildings or they would be subject to the natural discipline consequences of this behavior.

Please contact Superintendent Brett Garrett at 765-664-0624 or bgarrett@eastbrook.k12.in.us if you have any questions or thoughts.

Sincerely,

Eastbrook Community Schools

Parents:

Be a part of the conversation! Starting on Oct. 12th we will be participating in the Speak Up national research project. Speak Up is the first survey designed to help parents share their ideas directly with schools and national policymakers. As key stakeholders, Speak Up provides parents with a mechanism for expressing their views to the administrators at their child(ren)’s school and district about key issues impacting their child(ren)’s education. Since 2003, Speak Up has collected and shared the views of more than 4.5 million students, teachers, and parents from all 50 states, as well as internationally. By participating in Speak Up, parents are expressing their views to a wider audience of local, state, and national policy makers as well as the business community—and contributing to the national dialog about science, technology, and preparing students for the 21st century workforce.

The online survey is open to students, educators and parents; it’s quick and easy to get involved.  To take the survey visit: www.speakup4schools.org/speakup2016/  and click the blue parents enter here button!

It’s that time of the year again! Our greenhouse will be open on May 5th  & May 6th  from 11:30 a.m. – 6:00p.m. My fellow students have been working very hard for the last 5 months to get everything looking great and ready for opening day. We have learned many new things about the greenhouse this year.  We are pleased to announce that all of our prices will be the same as last year. Parking may be limited around the greenhouse this year due to construction on the school gym. We will set up orange cones in an area near the greenhouse for parking.  We also will have carts and students available to help get materials to your vehicle. We hope to see you all Thursday May 5thand Friday May 6th.

A little out of the way but worth the journey – Eastbrook Greenhouse a student run business.  – please forward to other interested individuals!
