IAPSS District III Superintendent of the Year
Marion, IN– September 4, 2024 –The Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents (IAPSS) is pleased to announce that Brett Garrett, Superintendent of Eastbrook Community Schools, has been named the IAPSS 2025 District III Superintendent of the Year. IAPSS District III includes Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Grant, Howard, Miami, Tipton, Wabash, and White counties.
Brett Garrett has served as Superintendent of Eastbrook Community Schools since 2012, leading the district with a focus on creating an inclusive and technology-integrated learning environment. Under his guidance, the district, which serves 1,575 students across four fully accredited schools, has strengthened its partnerships with nearby institutions like Taylor University and Indiana Wesleyan University, offering students enhanced educational opportunities.
Mr. Garrett’s extensive educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (1986) and a Master of Science in Elementary Administration and Supervision (1993), both from Indiana University, as well as an Educational Specialist degree (Ed.S.) from Ball State University (2010). His career in educational administration began as an Assistant Principal at Bluffton-Harrison M.S.D., followed by a role as Principal at Southern Wells Community Schools before becoming Superintendent at Eastbrook.
Eastbrook Community Schools is a rural district covering 150 square miles, including the towns of Matthews, Upland, Van Buren, and parts of Marion. The district is recognized for its commitment to providing rich, technology-integrated learning opportunities in a caring and personalized manner. Mr. Garrett has fostered a collaborative environment where staff, students, and parents work together to achieve educational excellence.
“Mr. Garrett’s leadership has been crucial in navigating the challenges of limited state funding while maintaining high educational standards across the district,” said a representative from the IAPSS District III. “His ability to leverage community partnerships and focus on innovative educational strategies has significantly benefited the students of Eastbrook Community Schools.”
In addition to his role as Superintendent, Mr. Garrett is actively involved in several professional organizations, including the Indiana School Board Association and the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents. He has also served on the Region 8 Executive Board and the Upper Wabash Valley Superintendent Study Council.
Mr. Garrett is one of eight superintendents being considered for selection to be the 2025 Indiana State Superintendent of the Year, which will be announced later this month.
